Apple adds two-factor authentication

Remember our series about how to activate two-factor authentication in Google, Dropbox and Facebook?

We are happy to inform you that Apple finally decided to join the club of companies who care about the security of its customers and started to rollout two-factor authentication.

You can set it up here if you are living in US, UK, Australia, Ireland or New Zealand. Additional countries will be added over time, says Apple in the FAQ describing this feature. When your country is added, two-step verification will automatically appear in the Password and Security section of Manage My Apple ID when you sign in to My Apple ID.

The two-factor authentication for Apple works in a similar way to the others already described. First you need to enable it as soon as you see it available in your country. Once you login to a new device with your Apple ID, you will be prompted to enter a 4-digit verification code which was sent via SMS to one of the devices you specified in your account.

You can find more details in the FAQ that Apple provides.

As soon as we are able to test this in Germany, we will post a detailed How-To in the same way as we did with the other services.
