Goodbye Avira, ready for the new challenges! (updated)

With this email, I announced my colleagues in Avira that I am going very soon to take on a new challenge outside of Avira:

In each of our lives comes a time when we have to leave “home” and try something new.
After 11 years, this time has come for me as well.
And what a great time it was! Avira will always have a good warm place in my heart and mind. Thank you all for these great years.

I will be around until end of May and before that I’ll send an invitation for a piece of cake so that we can say goodbye.

I would love to stay in touch with you and I am sure you will find ways to reach me 😉 .

Kind regards,

I almost forgot what I did in these 11 years, but fortunately, my LinkedIn profile did not.

A bit of history

Here is a compressed summary:

2003 – I started as a software developer and created some critical technologies and products for the old H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH

2004 – founded together with Mihai Angel the Avira Soft SRL in Bucharest, Romania.

2005-2010 – with different titles, I managed the software development of AVIRA’s Romanian branch, acting also as an interface with the German Teams. With those great guys, who unfortunately, are no longer with Avira (with a few exceptions), I created the probably the first cloud service in the AV industry called RealTime Protection Service (RTPS) (2006), the first Antispam and Antiphishing product of Avira, a consumer firewall and SAVAPI (the public SDK for the Avira’s engine, used todays by millions of users, especially in China).

2010 – created with a few other people the first Project Management department in Avira

since 2011 – switched to product management, being in charge with the Windows products.

since Dec 2013 – started to manage also the Mac product

since 2010 – I’ve been the official press speaker for Avira. Here is a list where I have been quoted or where I wrote articles.

In this time I have obtained the following certifications:

2010 – CompTIA Project+

2010 – CompTIA Security+

2012 – (ISC)2 CSSLP

Quite busy eleven years in my professional life … and a great time with my colleagues.
